master of the instant

"For me, the camera is a sketch book, an instrument of intuition and spontaneity, the master of the instant which, in visual terms, questions and decides simultaneously."

Henri Cartier-Bresson, In the Mind's Eye: Writings on Photography and Photographers

Today, I'm not sure what to write. So I rely on my camera to be the master of the instant.

And it feels good to look for an instant of beauty in my rather ordinary life. The light is starting to come back around, though January has been terribly cold this year.

My aim is to try to take time at least once a week to use my camera like a sketch book. I'm reading some amazing books about contemplative and intuitive photography, which are inspiring me to lean into photography more as a practice for something else, something deeper. Just like with making art or writing, the prize isn't the result as much as it is the experience of noticing, seeing and trusting.

So follow along, won't you? Anyone else out there using their camera as an instrument of intuition?

A little photography, a little poetry, a little inspiration to move your pen across the page, your brush over the canvas, a spark for your creative courage.

This is the MUSELETTER you’ll look forward to receiving.
