sunday service 7.9.17

A summer Sunday, not too hot for coffee.

Last week, I posted a little prayer and I wonder, shall I do it again? Is there such a thing as too much blessing? Does one ever run out of things to pray about?

I don’t pray to anyone/anything in particular. But I like sending messages out into the ether, maybe amusing a nearby alien being. Or maybe it’s like a wave – you never can know which shore it eventually washes up against.

More waves please. More gentle aliens with a sense of humor. More groovy coffee shops with funky art and gritty floors and saucy music playing over cheap speakers. More walking into a bookstore and buying the very first book of poetry I pick up. More pleasant conversations with the bookstore checkout guy.

More bat shit crazy dreams and slow-mo awakenings, lingering in bed way too long. More avocado, more bacon, more farm-fresh sugar snap peas. More barefooted on freshly cut grass, more cooing baby rolling by in a stroller with a squeaky wheel.

More red. More yellow. More vivid white. More Ben Harper with a cold jug of tea on a park bench under a cloudy, sweaty sky.

Sunday Service is a recurring community feature and you are invited to join the party!

Regardless of faith, prayer is a beautiful thing. It can be grateful, it can be joyful, it can be a question, it can be a song. This is a place where your writing can be your prayer, an open door for higher wisdom to ‘runneth over.’

Use the post to the right as an invitation to write your own Sunday Service or capture an image that elicits a stirring in your soul. Keep it short, make it washed in your truth. Write it for you, not for us.

But then share it with us. Trust us. Your words are important to us.

Post your writing or a link to your writing/photo in the comments below.

Or, if you share on social media, use the hashtag #sundayservice to allow us to find you, follow you, sing with you.
