sunday service 7.2.17

I have this lovely, nothing better to do, day ahead. Wide open. And over my morning coffee, listening to birds praise the rising sun as if it were the first time it ever happened, I am thinking about people going to church – to commune, to pray, to become enlightened.

I wonder, what is my prayer? What light do I wish to step into?

Let’s start here: Bless this day.

Bless the last sip of coffee. Bless hot showers and shampoo. Bless the pile of ink pens, full of possibilities. Bless sweet, red grapes, even the one that fell on the floor and rolled far under the sofa. Bless the open windows, at least until Noon. Bless bills paid, plenty of toilet paper and a full jar of peanut butter. Bless kind and openhearted folks to write with almost every damn day.

Also bless the color of tangerines, the smell of toasting english muffins and the sound of Patty Griffen crooning from my playlist.

Amen.

YOUR TURN

Sunday Service is a recurring community feature and you are invited to join the party!

Regardless of faith, prayer is a beautiful thing. It can be grateful, it can be joyful, it can be a question, it can be a song. This is a place where your writing can be your prayer, an open door for higher wisdom to ‘runneth over.’

Use the post to the right as an invitation to write your own Sunday Service or capture an image that elicits a stirring in your soul. Keep it short, make it washed in your truth. Write it for you, not for us.

But then share it with us. Trust us. Your words are important to us.

Post your writing or a link to your writing/photo in the comments below.

Or, if you share on social media, use the hashtag #sundayservice to allow us to find you, follow you, sing with you.
